Painted Glass Museum
The Zosim Oancea museum of Icons on Glass is today one of the biggest museums of this type in the world, and has a special place among museums in Romania. It hosts over 600 masterpieces of popular art in Transylvania.
Glass painting is an ancient technique, acclaimed to be „a unique fusion of Eastern tradition and Western technique” and has spread in Transylvania since the beginning of 18th century. Glass icons were crafted by peasant painters which dedicated their time after field work to this art. Born out of the faith of the locals, these icons reflect the spirituality of Romanian peasants at that time.
