Moments to expect
Day 1: Settle in a typical boyar mansion in Transylvania
On day one we drive into the heart of Transylvania to a small, authentic village. On our way we stop to buy traditional, home-made shepherd pies for our lunch.
We settle in our rooms in a superb boyar mansion from the 20th century and then go to the nearby pasture where our friendly horses from the Huluc breed roam free. As we get to know them, we discuss the schedule and ride for the next day.
We return for dinner and to enjoy the peaceful evening.
Day 2: Horse riding
After our delicious breakfast, we go back to the pasture to "catch" the horses and saddle them up. Once we're friends with them, off we go for a 3 hour ride in the saddle. There are many routes we can take but this will depend on your experience level, weather, terrain etc - so we decide this on the spot.
We'll take a packed shepherd lunch with us to enjoy on the trail.
Meet the horse breeders
Depending on their availability, we can also visit the family behind all of this. They're authentic locals born in these lands with a special connection to their tradition and the horses they breed. They're fascinating people happy to share 'horsy' stories and talk about their passion. Oh, and they have lots of friendly dogs and cats!
Learn how to use a bow and arrow
While Transylvania was under Hungarian occupation, there were lots of Romanian outlaws in these parts. They were experts at using a bow and arrow - even from horseback. I have the same passion and will teach you how to use one, wether standing or from horseback!
[Tour extension] Another day of riding
If you enjoy horse riding as much as me - you'll want to stay here another day. It will be worth it! If so, we can spend day 2 in a more relaxed way and explore the area un-rushed with our horses and meet locals.
On day 3 after breakfast you already know the drill: we saddle up the horses and go for another 3h ride.
After lunch, we say goodbyes to our friends and then head back to Cluj (arrive around 17:00).
[extra 115 Euro / person with everything included]
